Kalamata Shopping Tour
The Kalamata Shopping Tour gives you free time to explore this unique city. Try to take in the old town, with the castle sitting atop the small acropolis and its working amphitheatre at its base. The beautiful cathedral and ecclesiastic buildings at the bottom. The old town nestles at the foot of the castle and houses many small and unique shops. There is also a lively fruit and vegetable market every Wednesday and Saturday.
Kalamata, the capital and chief port of the Messinia and the second-largest city in the Peloponesse. It is built on the ruins of an ancient city which were founded around 1500BC. Amongst other things, Kalamata is famous for its dark succulent olives, the world-famous olive oil, honey eyed figs and the honey-covered sesame sweet. Today the city can best be described as having three distinct areas:
The modern city houses modern shops, coffee shop boutique style clothing shops in the pedestrian main street.
The third area is the seafront with its 7 km long beach, many tavernas, port and marina.
This is a lovely opportunity to explore this city combining both sightseeing and shopping and to enjoy a relaxing coffee whilst watching the world go by.
