Ancient Olympia Excursion
The excursion to Ancient Olympia takes us through some beautiful countryside to the west coast of the Peloponnese. We will pass through a number of places of interest along the route and areas steeped in history.
On arrival at Olympia take time to enjoy the lovely location and soak up the peace and tranquillity of the site. You will then meet your guide who will take you around the ancient site bringing to life the history, stories and details behind the things you will discover and see.
Ancient Olympia is an UNESCO site and was one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world and still one of the most famous sites. The birthplace of the Olympic games nearly 3000 years ago. Where the eternal flame was, and still is, lit to mark the start of the games.
Your guide will explain to you all of the magnificent history, stories and details as you make your way through the extensive site. You will also visit the museum which displays some wonderful artefacts dedicated to the ancient gods including the famous statues of Hermes and Apollo
If you feel fit enough take this once in a lifetime opportunity to run the 200 meters in the ancient stadium.
Included in the tour is a visit to the museum where many wonderful artefacts are displayed.
Following the tour, there is free time to visit either the site or the museum, have lunch or wander around the shops before we make our return journey.
